One of Wendy Neugent Hayden's favorite gifts as a child was her Fisher Price play house. For Christmas the year Wendy turned six, her Dad hand made her a Barbie Dream House. She decorated it with Kleenex boxes turned into beds and sofas and used the tissues for bed linens and curtains. She has been decorating ever since.
Wendy took her first Interior Design class at Penfield High School (she got an A!) and majored in Theatre Design in college at SUNY Fredonia. She loved her set, costume and lighting design classes. Where else can you get college credit for sewing 26 fairy and sprite costumes for "A Midsummer's Night Dream." While all the other kids were out at parties, she was hanging out in the scene shop working on her pneumatic nailing skills. (Nail Guns are Fun!)
After graduating, Wendy spent the next 8 years traveling the world working for top cruise lines. Spending the spring in Bermuda touring the forts, summer in Alaska visiting lighthouses, the fall in New England visiting historical houses and the winter in Tahiti touring ruins. Pretty good life for a few years. Wendy's time on board was spent in the beautiful surroundings of 5 star cruise ships. There isn't much that can top it when the view out of your cabin window is the volcanic peaks of Bora Bora or El Moro at Sunset.
After having her first son, the nesting bug hit Wendy hard and she bought and sold 3 houses in the next 5 years. The first house sold for twice what she had paid for it just over 2 years before. The second house sold for over $60,000 more than she had paid for it just 20 months before.
While building her dream house, Wendy found herself loving picking out all of the design elements for her house, everything from Kitchen cabinets to faucets to light fixtures. She gets excited about matching all of the metal finishes on drawer pulls and faucets.
One night after a Tivo'd marathon of "Designed to Sell" "Secrets that Sell" "House Hunters" and "Get it Sold", Wendy had an epiphany. She finally knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. Strange that they don't have Home Staging Consultant as an option in those aptitude tests you take in high school.
Wendy began studying Home Staging with the Institute of Home Staging, then went on to take classes with Internationally recognized home staging expert Debra Gould (bet you didn't know there was such a thing as an internationally recognized home staging expert) and finally took even more classes with the founder of Home Staging, Barbara Jennings.
Now she can use all that knowledge and passion for matching your faucets to your drawer pulls, to help you get top dollar for your home, like she has done with her own houses and the houses of her clients.
Wendy is very happily married to Sean Hayden, a custom engine builder, and the mother of three boys, Dylan, Zachary and Nathaniel. Her house is filled with love and legos!
